    • University of Manchester/Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics

    • 10 weeks
  • Q. What sort of research were you doing?
    • Pulsar Searching. I created a new workflow on zooniverse.org for citizens to identify visual cues in the DM, sub-band, sub-integration, and pulse profile plots. We will use the data from this study to train computer algorithms (classifiers).
  • Q. Did being abroad influence the kind of research you’re doing?
    • Yes, it confirmed that I do want to potentially continue with pulsars.
  • Q. What’s the coolest thing about being abroad?
    • The independence and the possibility to explore a different culture

    • Cheers or Mint

    • Integrating yourself into a new community (not having any friends or family)

    • Explore local events

    • I volunteered at Bluedot Festival.
  • Q. What advice would you offer others thinking of going abroad?
    • Really put yourself out there and step out of your comfort zone. Explore the culture.
  • Q. What skills have you learned abroad?
    • I studied abroad during the spring, but just in general, navigating public transportation, managing money, problem solving (flight was cancelled had to figure out what to do), improving communication with strangers.
  • Q. Is there anything you’d do differently or anything you wish you’d have known?
    • I would throw myself out there more, step out of my comfort zone more.
